City & Guilds Level 2
Dog Groomer Assistant
Who is the qualification for?
​
This qualification is designed for candidates aged 16+ who wish for career progression into or within the grooming industry and who are not yet sufficiently advanced to study for the Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma.
​
It is a City & Guilds requirement to achieve this qualification before proceeding onto the Level 3 Diploma. The candidate will gain practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent groomer’s assistant.
​
On Site at Total Dog Grooming Ltd:​
Practical Assessment 1: Assess behaviour, identify breed, lift and move using relevant restraints and handling.
Practical Assessment 2: Basic health check, identify key anatomical points, type of coat and prepare dog for bathing.
Practical Assessment 3: Bathing, drying, nail and ear care.
Practical Assessment 4: Trimming to prepare for styling
Practical Assessment 5: Cleaning the salon and equipment

1 x online multiple choice exam (60 minutes) - taken on site at the end of the course.
​
There will also be written assignments and worksheets to complete to help you research and revise for the theory side of the qualification. These are to be completed both on-site and as part of documented guided home study until the required guided learning hours are met.

Dog Groomer Diploma
Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is designed for candidates aged 16+ who wish for career progression within the grooming industry and who have already achieved their Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant qualification.
​
The candidate will gain practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a professional dog groomer.

On Site at Total Dog Grooming Ltd
Practical Assessment 1: Risk assessment
Practical Assessment 2: Client consultation and style a drop coat
Practical Assessment 3: Hand strip a dog
Practical Assessment 4: Style a wool mix coat and maintenance of equipment
Practical Assessment 5: Style a dog to breed standard and health check
Practical Assessment 6: First aid

There will also be written assignments and worksheets to complete to help you research and revise for the theory side of the qualification. These are to be completed both on-site and as part of documented guided home study until the required guided learning hours are met.

1 x online written exam – to be sat under full exam conditions (2hrs). This exam is held twice a year in June and November at an external site and you will be given a choice of which month you want to sit it following completion of the practical and theory assessments.
