When Training Stops Working, There is Usually a Reason!

When a dogs nervous system is disregulated or they experience pain, you might notice:
-
Barking or reactivity to people, other dogs, cars
-
Difficulty settling or sleeping
-
Withdrawn behavior, not interacting with family
-
Constant scratching, digging, or trying to get comfortable
-
Easily startled
-
Sensitivity to sounds and lights
-
Difficulty focusing or learning
-
Resistance to collar and lead
-
Over-excitement with no "off switch"
-
Excessive licking and chewing behaviors
-
Jealousy or resource guarding
-
Submissive urination
-
Clingy, anxious behaviors

"These aren't just "bad behaviours" that need training. This is your dog telling you something else is wrong".
You've tried positive reinforcement. You've been consistent. You've followed all the advice from trainers, watched the videos, read the books. But your dog still isn't learning. They're still reactive, still anxious, still struggling with behaviours that seem impossible to shift.
Here's what most trainers won't tell you: when a dog is experiencing pain, anxiety, or stress, their ability to learn shuts down completely.
It doesn't matter how good your training technique is. If your dog's body hurts, their nervous system is overwhelmed, or they're carrying emotional tension from past trauma, traditional training methods alone will continue to fail.
The Three Pillar Approach:
Pillar 1:
Clinical Canine Massage
(Working towards Level 5 Clinical Canine Massage)
Pain changes everything about how a dog experiences the world. Many behavioural issues have an underlying physical cause - a sore hip, tension in the shoulders, old injuries that never fully healed. Often pain is the route cause of behaviour issues. We target this first.
While in training I outsource to K9 Bodycare & Lily Moffat Vet Physio
Pillar 2:
Reiki & Energy Balancing
(UKRF Practitioner & Crystal Healing)
Anxiety and stress aren't just "behavioral issues" - they're signs of a dysregulated nervous system. Dogs, like humans, have energy centers in their body that can become blocked, especially after trauma or ongoing stress.
Trained with the UKRF, I am a Reiki II Practitioner & Energy Balancer
Pillar 3:
Positive Reinforcement Training
(Working towards IMDT Accreditation. 10+ Years Experience)
With pain addressed and the nervous system balanced, positive reinforcement training becomes effective again. I combine my decade of training experience with IMDT-certified methods to help your dog learn, build confidence, and strengthen the bond between you.
Over a decade of experience with a wealth of knowledge & experience
Why She Created This Method:
After a decade working in rescue, Sarah witnessed some heartbreaking cases. Dogs who had experienced abuse and neglect, yes, but also dogs who found themselves in these situations through no fault of their own - families losing their homes, death of a loved one resulting sudden changes they couldn't understand.
She recalls watching a 14-year-old dog who had never shown aggression in his life suddenly lip-curling and growling. Why? Because his owner passed away and his entire world became terrifying. He wasn't aggressive - he was scared and completely shutting down.
She saw dogs in kennels become noise-sensitive, unable to sleep & withdrawn. Dogs who survived but at what cost to their wellbeing? Their nervous system was in constant fight-or-flight mode. Everything smelled different. The world became a tangled web they couldn't decode.
And here's what she discovered: it wasn't just rescue dogs.
Through working with a wide range of breeds and owners, she found that they were constantly battling against the fight-and-flight response. Reactive, fearful, anxious, or over-excited, these dogs were all struggling to learn, but for different reasons.
That's when she realised that if she could calm the energy centres, rebalance the nervous system, and work through their fight-and-flight rather than against it, she could help dogs become calm and responsive again. Ready to learn.
Working Together:
Location: Working from Carlton Road in Worksop. For specific cases such as aggression where your dog would feel safer, treatment can be provided in your own home.
The Approach: Every dog is different. Sarah will start with an initial consultation where she will assess your dog's physical state, energy balance, and behavioural challenges. From there, she creates a tailored plan that addresses what your specific dog needs - whether that's more focus on pain management, nervous system regulation, or behavioural training.
Case Studies: Currently accepting case studies for each element of The Harmonising Bond Method™. This is an opportunity to work together as she documents the transformative results of this holistic approach.
PLEASE NOTE: All training sessions booked through Sarah does incorporate the three pillar approach and will be advised accordingly based on your dogs needs.
